Best Books to Read in 2023:
Science Fiction Books
In this genre we have a wide variety of stories, from experimental surgeries to wreckage from alien wars. Even if science fiction isn't a genre you typically read, these books tell fantastic stories with themes of other genres throughout, such as romance or suspense.
Fiction Books
These books strike a chord with real life scenarios of love, loss, and injustice making them powerful literary works.
A Man Called Ove - Ove is the grumpy old man next door that seems to greet the world with a frown. When a chatty family with kids moves in next door, Ove's life is turned upside down. This book tells the heartache that Ove has experienced in his life and shows us that people aren't just as they seem on the exterior.
Our Missing Hearts - This book is about a 12-year old boy named Bird, as he tries to find his mother. It is devastating tale with racial oppression in a near dystopian world. But it shows that small acts of bravery can make an impact and ultimately lead to hope.
Mystery Books
One of my favorite genres, you can't go wrong with murder mysteries. There is something about true crime, and in this case fictional crime, that is difficult to put down until the mystery is solved. Plus, these authors have plenty of books in their series, so if you like one of them there are endless more mysteries to solve.
Psychological Thriller Books
Aka the Frieda McFadden section. If you love thrillers and massive plot twists then you'll love these books.
Thriller & Suspense Books
Suspense books are exciting, because you get to continually guess what happens next and see if you can figure it out before the characters do.
Fantasy Books
Most of these books feature strong heroines that must fight against all odds. Filled with incredibly well developed characters and enough injustice to get your blood boiling. Depending on your preference, some are more heavily romance based while others are powerful and suspenseful.
Throne of Glass - This book follows a teenage female assassin and her fight for her freedom. It has plenty of mystery, romance, and humor making it a perfect YA fantasy.
An Ember in the Ashes - Laia is a force to be reckoned with, in order to save her brother she will have to endure endless hardships. It is fast-paced and compelling, and impossible to put down.
Romance Books
All lot of books have a little bit of romance to them, but these are the full on love stories. All with their unique characters and story lines, but filled with steamy romance.
Find Me - Shiloh's life has been devastating, she lost her entire family at the hands of her stalker. Now, she's trying to start fresh with a new identity and pick up the pieces of her life. Luckily, there are 4 boys next door that seem more than willing to help. This book is a reverse harem romance filled with drama and teen angst.
Humor Books
Laughter is the best medicine, and these books are witty, punchy, and entertaining.
Historical Fiction Books
One of my favorite genres, historical fiction fosters an emotional connection to past events through fictional characters. Often heart wrenching and powerful pieces of literature. These are just a handful of the books we recommend in this genre.
Homegoing - This story begins in eighteenth century Ghana, where two sisters will lead very different lives. It follows their different storylines and well as those of their decedents. One through centuries of warfare in Ghana, the other through slavery in America.
Short Stories
Fulfilling short stories for when you aren't quite ready to commit to an entire novel.
This post was all about the best books to read in 2023. There are so many great stories to pick from, and enough to keep you busy for some or all of the year.
