This post contains book club questions for 28 Summers by Elin Hilderbrand. If you have not yet read the book these questions may contain spoilers.
This was my first Elin Hilderbrand book that I've read. Personally, I think it had great potential, but left me wanting more.
I felt that the ending could have been significantly more emotional and the dialogue in that final interaction between Jake and Mallory was lacking.
Nonetheless, I think this book is actually a great one for discussion!

Book Club Questions:
What 3 words would you use to describe this book?
The story begins with Mallory on her death bed and Link calling to tell Jake. Did that piece of information change how you perceived their story? Would you have felt differently if you didn’t know that their love would end that way?
On page 286 Mallory says, “It’s like a game of Would You Rather? Would you rather have perfect bliss for only three days or a solid but dull relationship all year long?” Do you think Mallory truly believed that a life with Jake all year long would be solid but dull? If you had the option, which would you choose?
How do you feel that Mallory never married and would end her relationships before her weekend with Jake, meanwhile Jake was married for almost the entirety of their relationship?
Do you think it was fair for Mallory to compare her relationships to something that happened only three days out of a year? Do you think she should have ended her relationship with Jake instead?
If Mallory or Jake would have expressed that they wanted more, do you think that they would have been together? Would it have worked if they did?
What did you think about Ursula knowing about Jake and Mallory’s relationship? Were you surprised that Ursula went to Nantucket to ask Mallory to stop seeing Jake during her election, but not permanently? Could you do what Ursula did?

What were your feelings about Ursula? Did you think she truly loved Jake? Why do you think she never confronted him about his relationship with Mallory?
What did you think of Leland and her friendship with Mallory? What do you think it says about Mallory that the closest people in her life were Leland and Jake?
When Mallory’s parents tragically pass Jake decides not to attend the funeral. What did you think of that decision? How do you think his absence impacted Mallory?
