Every Summer After is a love story that takes place over 17 years. When Percy's parents decide to buy a summer house in Barry's Bay to escape the heat of the city, they unknowingly move in next to a widowed mother and her two teenage boys. Percy and Sam are both 13 years old and Sam's older brother, Charlie, is 15 years old when they meet.
The story alternates between Percy's perspectives in the current day, age 30, and her summers growing up alongside Sam and Charlie. Sam and Percy's romance is the slow burn of two unsure teens trying to navigate their first love.
Meanwhile in present day, Percy is going back to Barry's Bay for the first time in 10 years to attend Sam and Charlie's moms funeral. As she spends time with Sam, we start to unravel the mystery of why their relationship ended.
If you're looking for your next book club book, this novel will make for great discussion on first loves, regrets, friendship, betrayal and second chances.
If you like this book and writing style, check out Carley Fortune's anticipated new novel Meet Me at the Lake releasing May 2, 2023. Although it is not an Every Summer After sequel, it takes place in a similar romantic lake setting.

1) What was your favorite moment of the book? What was your least?
2) This story focuses on first love and second chances. Did any part of the story resonate with you? If so, how?
3) Percy has a habit of pushing away the people that love her when a conflict arises. Why do you think that is? If you were Sam, Charlie, or Delilah how would you have reacted to being shut out?
4) What did you think of Delilah and her friendship with Percy? Do you see Delilah as a good friend? What about Percy?
5) How would you have reacted to some of the situations in the book? Would you have acted similarly or differently? Why? Why do you think the character acted the way he or she did?
a) Sam decides that he does not want a relationship with Percy until he is in the right place to bring her into his life. How would you have reacted? Did you understand where Sam was coming from?
b) When Sam leaves for college, his and Percy’s relationship faulters. How would you have reacted if you were in Percy’s shoes? What do you think each could have done differently? Do you feel that Percy’s betrayal during this time is forgivable?

6) Charlie is an integral part of this story and is often at the center of Percy’s life. He was her first kiss, he influenced her decision to try and swim across the lake, and he seemed to really pay attention to her. What do you make of Percy and Charlie’s relationship? What about Percy and Sam’s relationship?
7) This story is told from Percy's point of view. Are there any instances where you would have wanted to know what was going through Sam's or Charlie's minds?
8) How do you imagine Sam and Percy’s lives playing out? Do you foresee any struggles? Or do you think their foundation built through childhood is strong enough to stand the test of time?
9) If you had to choose one lesson the author was trying to teach us with this story, what would it be?
10) Does this book warrant a sequel? Whose story and what story-line would you want to know more about? What about a prequel or companion book?
