The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is an incredible story about the importance we place on what specifically makes life worth living. Is it experiencing new things? Or is it spending quality time with the people that will remember you?
In 1714, Adeline LaRue calls upon the Old Gods after dark to save her from a life that she feels will be mediocre. Living and dying all within the same small town in France, the wife of someone she doesn't love.
Although she doesn't know it, in return for granting her wish of freedom, Addie will be forgotten by friends, by family, and by everyone she meets from that moment on.

1) Although Addie cannot be remembered, she can plant ideas and has left her mark on the world through others. What do you think are the best and worst components of Addie’s curse?
2) When we meet Remy, we know that to this point Addie has had to use her body to survive her curse. Yet in this interaction he lives up to her expectations of romance. Though she knows he will forget there is still the sting that comes with it. How do you think this specific encounter affected her?
3) Addie starts her extraordinary, invisible life in 1714 at a time when women are treated more like shut-ins than individuals. How do you think the world’s view of women complicated her curse even further? What would you have done to survive in this time?
4) During their first anniversary dinner Luc says “And who will be blamed, I wonder, for the missing chocolates in the lady’s room? Or the blue silk robe? Do you think no one suffers when you steal?” (Pg. 149) How do you think Addie’s curse has impacted others throughout the centuries? Would you be able to steal knowing that someone else will most likely be punished?
5) Addie and Henry curses complete each other in a way that give them a chance to find love. But do you feel that Addie and Henry truly love each other? Or is their relationship one of convenience? Based on your opinions, what do you think Addie’s true motivation was in saving Henry?

6) Luc reveals that it was not coincidence that Henry and Addie’s curses complemented each other. When Addie made her deal, it was because she begged Luc for freedom. But Henry was intoxicated when Luc showed up and offered him a way out. Do you think that Henry was tricked?
7) Time is a crucial component of this book. The infinite amount of time Addie and Luc have, the brief amount of time Addie has with any particular person, and the short amount of time Henry thinks he has to live. What does it make you think about the amount of time in your own life, and what you do with it?
8) Addie desperately wants to believe herself to still be human. But after 300 years, do you think Addie can still relate to being human? Or is she just the same as Luc, using humans as entertainment to fill her own needs?
9) If you had to choose one lesson the author was trying to teach us with this story, what would it be?
10) How do you imagine the rest of Addie’s story going? Will she ever truly be free of her curse?
